Microbiome Testing & Services
Optimal Canine Health Begins in the Gut
Gain detailed insight into your dog’s gut microbiome, paired with targeted, evidence-based recommendations to help resolve persistent digestive issues, skin sensitivities, and overall health concerns.
Address the Source. Not Just the Symptoms.
Microbiome Testing
GI Microbiome Panel
Unlike routine fecal testing, which detects only pathogens, our panel measures the full microbial community using advanced molecular profiling and integrates results into the dysbiosis severity index for clear clinical interpretation. By quantifying the impact of dysbiosis, we can move beyond symptomatic treatment to target the root cause, personalize therapy, and track recovery over time. We are able to provide this to you based upon over 30 years of combined experience, coursework, education, and constant research.
A Healthy Gut Starts the Healing Process. Targeted Testing Finishes It.
Your dog’s gut microbiome is the single most important key to your dog’s digestion, immunity, and longevity. But chronic itching, recurring ear infections, low energy, and digestive flares may be driven by hidden environmental stressors like heavy metals, crop chemicals, mold toxins, and microbial imbalances. Pairing the gut microbiome test with our targeted diagnostic panels may uncover the hidden external triggers, allowing us to create an actionable, end-to-end health plan.
Ear Microbiome Test
While our gut microbiome test reveals internal digestive health, the ear microbiome panel isolates localized yeast and bacterial shifts directly at the site of inflammation. Addressing both ensures long-term relief rather than temporary, quick-fixes.Combining our gut and ear microbiome testing offers a dual-front approach to chronic allergy and ear issues.
Skin Microbiome Test
If your dog is experiencing chronic itching, redness, or hair loss, our skin microbiome panel analyzes the bacteria and fungi living on your dog’s skin. Standard treatments often rely on broad-spectrum remedies that may clear symptoms temporarily without addressing the root cause.
Our test will identify the bacteria and fungal species on the skin when dermatitis/pruritus is present. We do not recommend this test for dogs not exhibiting clinical signs.
Environmental & Toxic Exposure Testing
Mycotoxin Panel
Mycotoxins are toxic secondary metabolites produced by molds that contaminate grains, nuts, and meats used in commercial pet foods, or accumulate in humid home environments.
This test is best if your dog has chronic skin itchiness, seasonal allergies that will not resolve, unexplained fatigue, or if you are feeding grain-inclusive commercial diets.
Environmental Mold Test
VDI offers mycotoxin testing for both patient and environmental samples – detecting a wide array of mycotoxins, which are toxic compounds produced by certain molds, known to adversely affect human and animal health. If there’s known mold contamination in the environment, it’s crucial to consider testing pets for potential mycotoxin exposure.
Glyphosate Panel
Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup, is frequently used as a harvest desiccant on the agricultural crops used to make dog food, which results in high residual levels of the chemical entering the final kibble product.
Glyphosate acts as a synthetic antibiotic in your dog’s body, resulting in persistent leaky gut and unexplained digestive sensitivity.
Mineral & toxic metal fur test
Blood tests show only acute, real-time circulating levels of minerals and heavy metals. Our fur analysis provides an historical record (three to six months) of heavy metal accumulation.
Tap water, low-quality aluminum bowls, toys, and commercial diets may cause gradual toxic metal accumulation or mineral imbalances that manifest as poor coat health, anxiety or immune disfunction. Our panel tests for 29 mineral and metal values.
